2 revisioni valutano l’efficacia di semplici raccomandazioni per smettere di fumare, una (Stead 2008), 41 RCT inclusi, considera le raccomandazioni fatte dal medico e dimostra che esse sono efficaci rispetto a nessun intervento, aumentando dall’1 al 3% le persone che smettono di fumare, 26 studi, 22240 partecipanti RR 1.76 (IC95% da 1.58 a 1.95). La seconda revisione (Rice 2008), 42 RCT inclusi, considera le raccomandazioni fatte dall’infermiere/a e dimostra che gli interventi realizzati da personale infermieristico sono efficaci rispetto a nessun intervento, 31 studi, 15205 partecipanti, RR 1.28 (95%IC da 1.18 a 1.38). La sfida sarebbe quella di incorporare questo tipo di interventi come pratica standard di routine così che possa essere offerta a tutti i pazienti.
