Sono in particolare trattati argomenti relativi alla ricerca in medicina clinica, sanità pubblica, epidemiologia, servizi sanitari, economia sanitaria, chirurgia, ricerca qualitativa, metodologia della ricerca, formazione medica.

La rivista è interamente accessibile a tutti gratuitamente e adotta anche un processo di peer review “open”: per promuovere la trasparenza del processo di pubblicazione rende pubblicii report dei revisori e le diverse versioni degli articoli.
