Studio Controllato Randomizzato

Randomised Controlled Trial, RCT – Disegno di studio nel quale le condizioni dello studio sono manipolate dal ricercatore. I soggetti nei gruppi di studio vengono assegnati al trattamento di interesse in maniera casuale attraverso la randomizzazione. Al gruppo di controllo dello studio viene prescritto un trattamento di cui si conosce l’effetto, oppure nessun trattamento. Lo studio si definisce “a doppio cieco” quando né i partecipanti, né le persone che raccolgono i dati sanno se, rispettivamente, ricevono o prescrivono il trattamento in studio o quello di controllo. Il RCT condotto in maniera metodologicamente corretta è considerato al vertice della cosiddetta “gerarchia delle prove di efficacia”, secondo solo alla revisione sistematica.
